In the sneaker world, it is very common for the world’s most famous athletes to sign lucrative deals with well-known sneaker brands. In fact, the profits from these collaborations rival their sport-related revenue with Michael Jordan reported to have earned over a billion dollars from Nike. However, they are not alone in this, and the lucrative deals eventually drew the attention of famous actors and musicians, who now own their own lines of sneakers.
The Rock
Since Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson successfully transitioned from a charismatic wrestler to one of the most profitable movie stars in Hollywood, he has managed to succeed at any enterprise he has turned his hand to. And his collaboration with Under Armour is no exception.
The Rock has developed a series of pairs designed to sustain the hardest of workout regimes. Models like the PR4 Training shoe are extremely sturdy. He has even signed a deal with mixed martial arts brand UFC. Soon, most fighters will have Project Rock shoes in their lockers
Beyoncé
The collaboration between Beyoncé’s line Ivy Park and Adidas is known for its amazing sales, which have led people to predict it will soon surpass Kanye West’s Yeezy.
Beyoncé’s IVY PARK x adidas sneaker line has produced some great shoes, like the Nite Jogger and the Super Sleek 72, with the latest example being the “Ultra Boost OG Pink” edition. A vibrant pink colorway covers the whole shoe, from the Primeknit body to the classic booster midsole.
Kanye West
Kanye West is one of the most successful musicians on the planet. The majority of his profits, however, don’t come from his music or concerts, but from the sales of his own brand of shoes.
The Yeezy line is mostly known for its collaborations with Adidas. The line is famous for its curvy midsoles and sometimes eccentric silhouette, like in the case of the Foam Runner. This pair is a highly ventilated slip-on shoe with an irregular shape, that became an unexpected success.
Rihanna
The collaboration between Rihanna and Puma has been quite profitable for both parties. Since both brands decided to work together, the shoe lines have always focused on fashion, using materials like suede and satin.
The line includes some drastically different pairs. The Rihanna Fenty Bow Sneaker, for example, is perfect for parties, while the Fenty x High Top Trainer Sneakers are oriented towards workouts. But probably, the most famous is the Fenty x Puma Creeper. The pair comes with a rather thick and sturdy sole, making the wearer feel taller without reducing stability.
Travis Scott
Travis Scott managed to partner with Nike to create his own series of Air Jordans, one of the most beloved models in the history of sneakers. But the risk Nike took paid off.
Travis Scott has come up with more traditional designs, like the Nike Air Force 1 Low, and the Air Jordan I “Fragment”. But he has also produced more playful models. For example, the Nike Dunk Low “PlayStation” was inspired by the colors of the original Sony console (including the original logo on the ankle).
It’s undeniable that the world of sneakers has benefitted from the collaborations between brands and celebrities. In fact, it’s hard to imagine what the landscape of shoes would look like without creations like Travis Scott’s Dunk Low “PlayStation” or Rihanna’s Fenty Bow Sneaker.
